Diversity Conference

The Grade 5 students were fortunate to be able to participate in the 15th Annual Diversity Conference at Bob Edwards School.  The day started with a keynote address in the gym featuring speakers and dancers from 4 different cultures.  From there, our class took part in 2 different workshops: My Language, My Rules; and World Peace Village.

Not only did the day give us some great information and conversation, it was an opportunity for the Grade 5's to experience their "next year home"; which is an important step in the transition process.  While they may feel nervous, they hopefully were able to see the theme of the conference in action:

To Conduct or Not to Conduct...

We started our last 2 combined Science topics for this year, Electricity and Magnetism last week. In the lab below, we had to predict whether different materials would be a conductor of electricity (allow electricity to flow through it) or be an insulator (not allow electricity to flow through it).  We also learned why resistors are used with circuits.

Story Beginnings

We have begun working on our the beginning paragraph of our animal stories.  The beginning paragraph should introduce the setting, main character, and problem.  Once students have finished, they are working through a checklist to see if all the elements are there.  Below is a sample of a story that the class wrote together, and students can use parts of it to help them craft their own beginning.

Tomatosphere Results

This was a project where we were seeing the difference between space seeds and "normal seeds".  We had to predict which seeds came from where.  Then we planted the seeds and recorded the number of seeds that germinated.  Finally, we made a line graph with the results.  Here they are!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences

It's that time of year again when we are asking parents to sign up for Parent/Teacher Interviews.  In order to do this a PowerSchool account is necessary. This will also allow you to pay your school fees online. Please use the following link to create an accounthttps://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html
To help all parents/guardians have access to an account we are offering drop in sessions on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am as well as Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14 from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. You must have a PowerSchool account to be able to book these conferences.  Teachers are excited to share your child's progress and look forward to meeting with you face to face.
If you have any trouble at all, please come to a drop-in session or call the office and we would be happy to help you.
